Administer spaces and links across multiple apps

If you have multiple Atlassian Cloud apps, Jira spaces can be associated with work in the other apps, including:

  • Confluence spaces

  • Bamboo build projects

  • Bitbucket repositories

This makes it possible to automatically link work items, documents, project plans, and build results. You can also create app links to Data Centre apps.

Before you begin

Ensure that you at least have access to create spaces in Jira. If you have additional access to other apps in your site (such as Confluence and Bamboo), you can automatically create a corresponding Confluence space or a Bamboo project when your Jira space is created.

Creating a space

After you complete the setup wizard, a Jira space is created. If you've chosen to have your site create corresponding objects in other apps, those are created, too. Alternatively, you can manually create objects in other apps and link them together yourself.

After the space is created, you will see the global settings for the space and can continue to configure app-specific settings for the space as needed.

Notes:

  • Choosing Jira Company-managed or Space Management creates the default Jira space.

  • The space key will be used as the prefix of this space's work item keys (e.g. TEST-100). Choose one that is descriptive and easy to type.

  • The space owner is a unique space role. Choose the person who manages the space as the space owner. If there is only one user in your Jira system, the space owner defaults to that person and this field is not available.

Creating a cross-app space

If you have multiple Cloud apps, Jira spaces can be associated with objects in the other apps, such as:

  • a wiki space

  • a build project

  • a source repository

The association among these objects makes it possible to automatically link work items, wiki documents, plan, and build result.

Deleting a cross-app space

Deleting a space will delete the space from Jira only. Any wiki documents, source files, changesets, code reviews, build plans, and build results associated with the space will remain in their respective apps.

To delete spaces, you must have space admin access for the space in Jira.

  1. Select Spaces, then View all spaces.

  2. Locate the space you want to delete. Click the Administer Space button.

  3. From the Actions button, click Delete Space.

The space will be deleted, but corresponding spaces, change sets, etc. in other apps will remain. You must delete them from those apps if you want to remove them.

In order to create links in Jira to point to other apps, the fields where links are created must use the Wiki Style Renderer, e.g. the Comment and Description fields of your space's Jira work items.

  1. Select Settings (), then Spaces.

  2. Select the space that contains the fields you need to configure.

  3. On the Jira space configuration page, then go to the Fields section.

  4. On each field where you will create links, click the Renders link.

  5. From the Active Renderer drop-down, select Wiki Style Renderer.

If the field configuration applies to multiple spaces and you don't want other spaces to be affected by the change, copy the referenced Field Configuration Scheme and associate your space with the new field configuration before changing the settings.

Linking to Data Centre apps from Atlassian Cloud

You can set up app links between your cloud and Data Centre apps. For more information, see Link to Data Centre products from Cloud.
