Create a business project as a user

Admins can grant users permission to create business projects if they’re paying for a Standard license for Jira Work Management.

How to grant permission

A Jira admin will need to grant permission for a group of users to create business projects.

  1. Create a group containing the users the admin wants to grant permission to.

  2. Assign this group to the new global permission Create classic business projects, which gives these non-admin users permission to create business projects.

Once a user has been granted this permission, users will be able to create new projects from the list of default Jira Work Management project templates.

Users with this permission will not be able to change workflows, schemes, or permissions of business projects.

Here’s how you can grant permission as an admin:

  1. Select the Settings icon at the top right.

  2. Select System.

  3. Select Global permissions.

  4. Use the Grant dropdown to select the Create classic business projects permission.

  5. Assign a group with this permission. All users in this group will have permission to create a classic business project.

Create a business project as a user

You can now create a business project for your team if you’re a user who’s been granted special permission by your admin. When creating a project, it needs a name, a key, and a project lead. The project lead is usually the project manager, but can effectively be any user you select when creating the project. However, you will not be able to change workflows, schemes, or permissions of business projects as a user. Learn how to create a project using Jira Work Management.
